Astral Launches Nairobi–Asmara Cargo Service

Astral Aviation has launched a new weekly freighter service between Nairobi and Asmara, adding a direct cargo link between Kenya and Eritrea and strengthening freight connectivity across the Horn of Africa.
The Kenyan cargo airline announced the route as part of its scheduled freighter service via Nairobi, saying the new link will connect Asmara to Astral’s wider regional and international network. The route gives Eritrean cargo access through Nairobi to markets across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
Astral said the service is aimed at supporting trade flows, logistics access and economic activity in emerging markets. The company listed Asmara alongside destinations including Jeddah, Riyadh, Sharjah, Dubai World Central, Djibouti, Mogadishu, Port Sudan, Entebbe, Kigali, Juba and Dar es Salaam.
The launch comes as Astral continues to expand its cargo network from its Nairobi hub. The company describes itself as an all-cargo airline operating scheduled and charter flights across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe, with hubs including Nairobi, Dubai, Johannesburg and Liege.
Astral’s website says the carrier operates scheduled services to 20 destinations and charter services to 50 destinations, using a freighter fleet that includes Boeing 737 and Boeing 767 aircraft.
For Eritrea, the new Nairobi–Asmara route adds another logistics channel at a time when Red Sea and Horn of Africa trade routes are drawing renewed attention. Regular cargo connectivity can support imports, exports, humanitarian logistics, commercial freight and wider business links between Eritrea and regional markets.
Astral said bookings and inquiries for the new route are being handled through its reservations office.
