A group of Arab and Muslim countries has condemned Somaliland’s reported opening of a purported embassy in occupied Jerusalem, calling the move illegal, unacceptable and a violation of international law.
The joint statement, issued in Amman on May 24, 2026, was signed by the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen and Lebanon.
The ministers said the step by the “so-called Somaliland region” infringes on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem and violates relevant international resolutions.
They also reaffirmed their rejection of unilateral measures aimed at changing the status of East Jerusalem, which they described as occupied Palestinian territory since 1967. Any attempt to alter its legal or historical status, the statement said, is “null and void” and carries no legal effect.
The statement also tied the Jerusalem issue to Somalia’s sovereignty, stressing full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The ministers rejected any unilateral move that undermines Somali territorial unity or infringes on Somalia’s sovereignty.
The statement places Somaliland’s reported Jerusalem move under direct regional scrutiny, not only as a Palestine-related matter, but also as a challenge to Somalia’s internationally recognized territorial integrity.
