Eritrea and Oman discuss Red Sea stability and regional dialogue

NEW YORK — Eritrea and Oman held talks on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, focusing on developments in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea, regional stability and the importance of direct dialogue among states in the region.
Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, exchanged views on addressing the causes of regional tensions through direct dialogue and limiting foreign interference, according to Oman's Foreign Ministry.
The two ministers also discussed strengthening bilateral economic ties, including potential cooperation in food security, fisheries and logistics. They agreed to maintain contacts between relevant authorities and explore opportunities for trade, investment and greater private-sector involvement.
The discussions come amid growing diplomatic attention to security and navigation across the Red Sea and adjoining waterways. In Oman's UNGA81 address, Albusaidi separately emphasized peaceful settlement of disputes, dialogue and respect for the sovereignty and internal affairs of states as central principles of Muscat's foreign policy.
