Eritrea's preschool network increased from 828 facilities to 2,004 during the 2025/2026 academic year, according to figures reported by the Ministry of Education on August 25. The expansion means the number of facilities more than doubled nationwide.

Abeba Habtom, head of preschool services at the ministry, said enrolment rose from about 65,000 children to 128,500. She also said training programmes were being organized for preschool teachers in all six regions and that teaching materials were being prepared in the country's languages.

The ministry's regional breakdown lists 667 preschools in the Southern Region, 444 in Gash Barka, 337 in the Northern Red Sea Region, 304 in Anseba, 175 in the Central Region and 77 in the Southern Red Sea Region. Those regional figures add up to the reported national total of 2,004.
