Eritrea's two under-23 starters abandon as Barry takes the U23 title

Neither of Eritrea's riders in the men's under-23 road race reached the finish on 25 September: Nahom Efriem and Milkiyas Maekele both recorded DNF in the 174.2km race, which covered thirteen laps of the 13.4km Mount Royal circuit.

Ashlin Barry (United States) won in 4h 17' 35", with Héctor Álvarez (Spain) second at 53 seconds and Jesper Stiansen (Norway) third on the same time.

The race set off from Montréal at 09:00 local time and Barry reached Avenue du Parc at 13:17. Ethiopia's three starters — Amaniel Desta, Tekle Alemayo and Aron Tekle — also failed to finish, so no rider from either country was classified in the under-23 men's race.

The under-23 men reached the circuit after the run-in from Montréal, and the 13 laps that followed included the Voie Camillien-Houde climb — 2.3km at an average of 6.2 per cent — and the Chemin de la Polytechnique, whose sections run above 11 per cent.
