Isaias and Burhan Hold Bilateral Talks in El Alamein
Published

Isaias Afwerki and Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met in El Alamein as a four-country summit backed Sudan’s unity, national institutions and a Sudanese-led political process.
Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki met Sudan’s Sovereignty Council chairman, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in Egypt’s El Alamein on Sunday, October 4, for talks on bilateral relations and regional and international issues.
The afternoon meeting took place on the sidelines of the quadrilateral consultative summit and formed part of regular consultations between the two leaders, Eritrea’s Ministry of Information said.
Sudan’s sovereignty and national institutions featured prominently in the summit, where Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi hosted Isaias, Burhan and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The resulting El-Alamein Joint Declaration backed Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity and national institutions, rejected the establishment of parallel entities and called for the resumption of a Sudanese-led political process. The leaders also rejected support for mercenaries.
Their broader commitments included non-interference in states’ internal affairs and peaceful political solutions to regional conflicts.
