Eritrea suffer 5–0 defeat to South Africa in Cairo

Eritrea were beaten 5–0 by South Africa at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday, leaving the Red Sea Camels with one point from their opening two AFCON 2027 Group D qualifiers.

Relebohile Mofokeng scored twice, while Sphephelo Sithole, Iqraam Rayners and Luther Singh completed the victory. South Africa moved to six points after opening their campaign with consecutive wins against Guinea and Eritrea.

The result leaves Eritrea five points behind the group leaders before Guinea host Kenya on Thursday. Kenya are already qualified as a tournament co-host, and only the highest-placed team among Eritrea, South Africa and Guinea will join them at the finals. Eritrea’s campaign resumes during the November international window.
