Eritrea sweeps top four in UCI Africa Tour ranking

The latest UCI Africa Tour men's road ranking has placed Eritrean riders in the first four positions, with five inside the top eight. In the table dated August 18, Biniam Girmay of NSN Cycling Team leads on 1,769 points, ahead of Movistar Team's Natnael Tesfatsion on 1,203, XDS Astana's Henok Mulueberhan on 646 and Burgos-Burpellet-BH's Merhawi Kudus on 327. Istanbul Team's Awet Aman is eighth with 260.

That concentration is matched by the nation classification. Eritrea leads with 4,523.88 points, more than three times South Africa's 1,406; Algeria is third on 917.66. The 3,117.88-point gap to second place shows that the lead extends well beyond Girmay's individual standing.

Tesfatsion's second place follows his August 2 victory at the Circuito de Getxo, his second win of 2026 after a May stage at the 4 Jours de Dunkerque. The underlying individual and nation rankings are rolling classifications based on results across the international calendar, so the totals are not limited to races held in Africa or points earned since January.
